sorry for short notice. the gov site states that the road opened up today. heading out to check it out. come on out and play if you already dont have plans. hoping to make it to hale so bring a saw if you got. hoping to be at the hatchery by 11 am

we went out for the day. pretty quiet for a nice saturday. ran into a few familiar faces. the fire did not look as bad as i anticipated. mother nature was at its best with fresh growth everywhere. on the way out we spoted some smoke. went to investigate and by the time we got down the hill it was a full fire. put it out as best we could and reported it.

Nice work on the smoke spotting and jumping in . I'm actually in westbridge in the middle of the burn from a couple weeks ago checking things out. I've seen first hand some wild fire burns this year that I hope I never see again.

thanks guys. it sort of just happened and i posted for more of academic purpose. now i know what unstable terrain is about after a fire. it was very sketchy to walk as many of the roots were gone and the ground felt soft and friking hot. even the big rocks by the road felt unstable.

I was particularly interested in your comments about the ground being all soft from the roots burning under the ground. I would imagine the area will be very prone to mudslides over the winter rains without the trees and undergrowth holding all the topsoil in place. Probably a good area to avoid during and after a heavy rain.

I saw some pics a guy posted on FB Saturday evening of the Hale Creek shelter. All is well down there, and from the pics the forest is still totally green along the edge of the beach. Looking forward to getting up there to see what has been affected, and how.
