Regarding antenna choice....All of my ham and GMRS antennas (except 1) have the same type of mount...NMO. I can swap antennas easily among the vehicles depending on the circumstances without difficulties. Same for the cb antennas, they are not NMO. If I wanted a NMO antenna for cb I would buy a 10m antenna and trim it to receive/transmit on the ham bands.

Yaesu FTM-300 just came out a couple of months ago. Smaller faceplate than my FTM-400 I have installed on LC-HE pictured below. Anyway the 300 has smaller faceplate but same capability as the 400 including C4FM digital(need hot spot & talk around the world). Smaller faceplate of course are way easier to find a spot in already tight LC dash/ instrument panels.

any reason you have the antenna folding forward?

It depends on how the motor is oriented, port or starboard of the roof rails, left or right side of the LC, and avoiding the rear hatch door from hitting the antenna if folded backwards. I prefer my mounts to be on the drivers side, less tree branches to hit in narrow tree lined streets.
Anway, my RV’s folds rearward >>
