Just a few months ago I added a blown HG stricken 80 series to the house hold but I already had a tundra. Didn't really see this place until now. Wanted to say hey! I find lots of other tundra forums aren't very focused on actually wheeling their trucks so I am hoping that people here wheel them the way I do. Here are a few pics.

nice truck, like the protection and limb risers, is that all homemade? What is your main purpose of that rack? I'm assuming some kind of canoe or kayak. I got an 2011 crew max that I just finished mounting a roof top tent with kayak bars and small platform across the roof (pictures soon). I'm hoping it doesn't cause too much of a drag and sucking even more mpgs. have you noticed any difference?

The rack, fender guards and such are home made.
I am a kayak instructor so the rack is built to haul kayaks! But the armor has paid for itself.

very cool! Avid kayak fisherman myself, all saltwater stuff here in south Tx, but appreciate a good river run, may have to come up there and hit you up for some lessons!

Come visit man, we can hit the water and the trail.

Im looking at getting a Tundra later this year.......I have a 94 FZJ80 and a 70 FJ40......

Im wondering once you get some wheel time if youd give a comparison between the two. I realize they are totally different vehicles, Im just wondering your take on them.

My Landcruisers aren't going anywhere, just need a truck is all.

Congrats on your New 80!

Thanks, The tundra is very, very capable off road. I have had multiple off road vehicles(jeeps, trucks, etc...) and honestly if you armor the tundra and don't mind the wheel base/rock rail drag it is one of the most solid rigs I have wheeled. They come factory with ATRAC which works pretty dang well as limited slips Ft/Rr. I added an ARB rear locker and that really stepped it up. Will wheel the 80 series over the next few weeks and let you know what I come up with.

Here are photos and my story. I have owned 4 FZJ80's. A 91, 93 and two 94's. Several of them I've driven from the USA all the way thru Mexico and Central America. They are very capable trucks. The last two that I sold, those trucks were shipped to Africa and the new owners were very happy to receive them. Each 80 I had was heavily modified with roof rack, side armor, ARB bumpers etc. During my last expedition to Central America, my new wife says to me she can't do the tent thing anymore, lol. So now we have a 08 Tundra that we are modifying for our next expedition to South America. We're doing the bumpers, up armor etc, but putting a truck camper on the back that is self contained with a bathroom, kitchen, queen sized bed , A/C and so forth. So far we love our Tundra and feel good that we still have a Toyota. Cheers

Thanks for the solid feedback.

I'm sure you will love your 80.

I know that I love mine!

On the truck note,.........I'm gonna be looking hard at FJ45's this year as well. If I can make it work I'd get the Truck Part with a Landcruiser cherry on top. .....
