I've never seen that recommendation in any FSM or other manuals on the 1UR-FE... that would be a costly inspection as it is the same procedure to repair a timing chain cover leak.

EDIT: Looking around see talk about it on these motors but not the *UR..
Lexus 2GR-FE, 2GR-FSE, 3GR-FSE, 4GR-FSE

Regular oil changes are about the best thing you can do for the timing chain and related components.
I probably should have picked a component Lexus actually tells us to inspect rather than my hypothetical comparison.

On the 460... my opinions based on reports

- Always keep an eye out for coolant crusty but the coolant recovery tank can often give you a good idea if you are hit with coolant valley leak if everything else checks out. My water pump went out at 38k miles on my 460 at about 5 years old. Water pump or coolant valley are probably the most common failure I see reported these days. Seemingly more so than radiator failures.

- Timing chain cover... seeing how these can be cleaned up.. unless really bad (rarely are just discovered but occur over extended period) I probably wouldn't fix

- Keep your sunroof drains clean or expect major electronics malfunctions from water intrusion

- Service the transmission fluid (starting to see more reports of failures). Won't go into it here... threads are around. P27xx errors.

- Brake fluid changes won't hurt either as I do see booster failures from time to time but they are still quite rare

It makes a big difference who owned the car. Was it a 95 pound woman or a 300 pounder that only made short trips and was in and out of the car 50 times a day? Drivers seat wear will tell you a lot. Was there a pet constantly in the car?

Was it a from a dry state and always garaged or somewhere they use salt and never garaged?

Lots of pictures and there is no substitute for looking at the car yourself.

Miles aren't everything.
