If one were to gusset an axle what thickness should the wall of the gusset be?

I used 5/16". But I have a bad habit of over doing things.

I have seen some axle housings that have been gusseted or maybe "trussed". I have my rear axle out and thought since I was there. All the different rigs out there no one seems to have done the rear axle, though. Fronts I have seen but no one seems to do the rear. I am having second thoughts.

Bent the front in my Yota mini truck 79. That's what happens when they FLY and aren't trusted.

Be careful to check straightness after gusset; it will warp with welding, otherwise you're just making sure you have a bent housing...
