This friday at 7:30 pm Belhaven college Center for the Arts is hosting a free concert with an amazing guitar duett from Croatia. The Miric sisters are identical twins who have been performing together since they were 8 years old. If you have some free time friday come check them out. They are headed in to the world guitar scene. Both have virtouso techniques. They always play stunning concerts. You can't beat the price.

Darka and Tanja Mirić are twin sisters from Zenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina. They started to play guitar at the age of eight and began to play duets soon thereafter. The sisters first came to the attention of Dr. Miroslav Lončar, professor of guitar at William Carey College, when they attended a summer workshop in his native country of Croatia. Greatly impressed by their ability and desire to learn, Dr. Lončar began searching for a way to make it possible for them to continue their guitar studies in the USA. Pursuing all possibilities for them, he asked his friend Dr. John Ingwerson, guitar professor at Hinds Community College, if there was any possibility of them receiving a scholarship to study at Hinds. Through the efforts of Dr. Clyde Muse, president of Hinds Community College, Dr. Rolland Shaw, chairman of the music department, and many generous people in the Hinds community who were touched by the girls’ story and ability to play, funds were raised making it possible for Darka and Tanja to begin their studies in the USA.
During their two years at Hinds Community College, the sisters received many awards for their guitar playing and academic excellence. They were prize winners at MMTA and Mississippi Guitar Festival in both solo and duo categories. After two years at Hinds Community College, they received full scholarships to attend Mississippi College.
During their time at Mississippi College, they were honored as presidential scholars and recipients of the B.G. Walden Memorial Scholarship. Among their musical achievements were first place awards at the MMTA, MFMC and Mississippi Guitar Festival competitions. Beyond Mississippi, they won the college duo and overall college division at the University of Texas at Brownsville Ensemble Festival.
Darka and Tanja have played in master classes for Jason Vieaux, Paul O’Dette, Julian Grey, Franco Platino, Ivan Rijos, Adam Holzman, Philip Hii, Robert Guthrie, Mateo Mela as well as for the Canadian Guitar Quartet and Quarternaglia.
They hope to continue their studies in graduate school after they complete their undergraduate degrees at MC.

Holy Cow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The concert was far better than advertised. The twins were absolutely amazing. I have never seen anything like it. Our horizons were definitely broadened.

Amanda forbid me from yelling PLAY FREEBIRD! But I bet if they had, it would have been the best version ever.

Thanks for letting us know!
