I recently changed the gear oil in my 01 Cruiser. (Valvoline 75/90 full synth). A couple days later, I started hearing a grind-like noise only after the truck has sat for some time and only upon my initial acceleration. It goes away immediately afterwards and does not return. Does this sound related to my changing of the oil or just a coincidence?

I also occasionally get a similar sound when accelerating up steeper inclines. Could this be related?

I’ve checked the skid for any contact and made sure the fluid was topped off. Spiders and slips have all been greased recently. I can’t seem to find anyone with similar symptoms on the forum. I will try to get a video later with my GoPro, but wanted to see if anyone had any initial ideas. Thank you

I started heating it too, especially on colder days, right under the transmission which is most likely transfer case... You hear the wheels meshed in (not grinding) for first 50 meters or so.

Check the drain bolt magnet, If it is covered in metal particles, the you have an issue, but for me, nothing, clean magnet. You don't have to drain, just quickly close the drain hole with one finger and inspect the magnet and reinstall quickly.

That sounds similar to what I’m hearing. It’s very short lived. I’ll check the magnet again. It was clean when I swapped fluids
