Happy Hanukkah / Merry Christmas / Happy Holidays!

I'm new to this forum and already I'm very really impressed by it's quality of content! Congratulations and thank you to the moderators and all those contributing their expertise!

I have recently begun my search for an early model 200-series (or possibly a very late model 100-series). I have been a devout Toyota consumer for most of my adult life. At one point, I counted 5 Toyotas in my driveway when both children were in college. After retirement, and for the past few years, my wife and I would spend 3-4 months per year camping in the North to escape the hot Florida summers. We were using our 2016 Sequoia to pull our Lance travel trailer but traded that last year for a 2018 Silverado 2500. We now keep our Lance stored up north, so we sold our Silverado a few months ago. We now are looking for a large vehicle to use as a second vehicle and to comfortably drive back and forth between Florida and Wisconsin. Had I known back then that I would be keeping my Lance up north, I never would have sold the Sequoia. Hindsight is always 20/20, right?

Anyway, I've spent the past several weeks researching vehicles. I did not start out thinking the LC was going to be an option. I have to admit, I've learned a lot about the LC that I never knew! Knowing what I know now, I don't think I will be happy with anything but a LC. Now I just need to continue to research, read the threads in this forum, and ask some questions to understand what exactly will meet my needs (and my budget).

The biggest thing I will need to get my head around is the fact that I will be looking at vehicles with 100,000+ miles in order to stay within my budget $20k +/- .

Thank you again for providing such a great resource!

I'll say it...... At 100k miles your just braking it in. Not braking it.

20k...that’s hilarious!

Welcome! You are going to fit right in.

Welcome! You’ll need to be flexible on location and the odometer to stay within that price range. There are only eight 200s on cars.com at $20K+/- right now nationwide. Lots of 100s however. Keep us posted on what you find.

You're better off with a Tundra. $20k will get you lots. Decent trucks too, same power train and front end as the lc200.

I’m beginning to think along those lines, too. I had an ‘07 Tundra at one point and loved it (same with my ‘16 Sequoia). It’s fun to do the searching and research so no matter what, I’m enjoying the journey. Thanks for your post!

Yeah if you get a 200, the ownership wont be too far off Sequoia and Tundra. But there is a premium price tag for that 100% japanese made content. It shows on the interior for sure.

It's interesting that you say that about the 100% Japanese content. Back when Toyota was having to supplement their U.S. production on certain models with "J" cars (as I used to call them), I would search out the J cars and prioritize their purchase over the U.S. assembled vehicles. I realize we are talking two slightly different things - Japanese content versus Japanese assembly, but it sounds like we may have similar viewpoints on this.

Thanks again!

Too bad you don't have one of those J cars now. The market for them is absolutely on fire.

Chris,

Ping me if you decide to go the 100 route.

Thank you, dirtmerchant. Right now, I'm enjoying the bliss of researching the pros and cons of the different alternatives I have. BTW, in which city do you live? I'm in Placida, right on the ICW.

It sounds like you have the advantage of time... Enjoy the search and which type vehicle will serve your needs best... If you find your winner get a PPI at a nearby Toyota Dealer that knows 200 series... It may be the best $200+/- you'll ever spend ( be prepared to walk away) . If you do buy a decent 200 series and then decide you don't like it... You already have an idea how easy it would be to resell it, probably won't co$t you anything (when it's all said and done) to give it a test drive for a couple of months in this price range.

Keep hunting you never know when a winner will show up!!!

Chris the LX570 should be at the top of your research list. A 2008 is in the price range you mentioned and it has bell and whistle.
