Just wanted to reach out and say hello, I am over halfway done with deployment. I will be back around Thanksgiving looking forward to getting my 71 up and running strong before Overland Expo West next year. My son Patrick befriended a fellow land cruiser owner out in New Mexico and he will be attending as well(he as I think three Land Cruisers). The expo is in May I know many of you are familiar with it. I just would like to know who would be interested and can we count that as a run. I plan on attending the regular meeting in Dec.

Update: My stock engine is rebuilt and just needs the rest of the attachments, which I will complete with Patrick when I get home.

My goal is to get my 1971 FJ40 running strong with new wiring harness, disc brakes, and power steering able to run 33 -35" tires that is a comfortable ride(Every Landcruiser owners dream right). I want to use it as a truck for yard work and extra vehicle that is solid for overlanding.

This will be a complete restoration. I have a four speed standard tranny and the FJ40 is mostly stock. I have most everything as it was running and driving but that was some time ago.
I have a 4 inch shackle lift w/spacers and rear helper leafs and new poly bushings, 1 inch body lift, long range fuel cell(need to mount under seats) and rear spare tank. What I would like is some advice on is local companies that I bring body parts to for cleaning and painting at a reasonable price. Mostly I have some surface rust(sheet metal is good) that just need to be cleaned and prepped and painted with some rust in the usual places. Aslo the usaual old rubber on doors and windows. Can I just get my springs re arced at C & J Springs or should I just get some Devers as a replacement?

What brand or make of power steering works best? Wiring harness? Is the Weber carb the way to go? What other things should I think about.
Also, I need to get my frame either sand blasted or dipped, which would be the better option? Which is more cost effective? Any recomendations of a good company that can do this locally or within a reasonable driving distance.
Which is better painting or powder coating? What about POR15
Is there a place to take my axles for rebuilding and disc brake instal or can I do all that myself.

My first priorty is the frame and chassis so I can remount the motor tranny wiring harness and fuel lines prior to the body reinstall. I know there is no easy way to do this and it takes time and hard work. I am just trying to streamline the process so Patrick can start on some things prior to me returning in order to meet my completion date and start attending some club rides as well. Thank you for your time.

PS, I went for a Land Cruiser ride in Qatar on the sand dunes there it was awesome, it was a stock 200 series with a gas V6. All we did was air down the tires. I have some pics and video that I can post the next time I get internet.

I wish I could help with the 40 but I am not familiar enough. I am looking forward to seeing that video when you get a chance!
