Greaseable shackle question...

Is there a preferred orientation for the zerk fittings on greaseable shackles? Not much choice on greaseable hanger pins..they have to be inserted from outboard to inboard.

But, with the shackles, it seems you have a choice... Zerk fittings facing out, or facing in...

Seems that they might catch more roadcrap if oriented facing out...any opinions?

I put mine outward. Figure it would be alot easier getting at em for greasing em up down the road. I don't think getting crud on em matters much as long as you wipe em off before you put a grease gun up to em.

Zerk Orientation

On the front shackles I have them facing towards the exterior (out) and haven't knocked any off. Now on the rear, I run extended shackles and I have shaved off many of the lower zerks that faced outwards, so on the lower zerk I face them inward, and so far they survive a lot longer. I must face the top ones out, because I couldn't get a grease gun on them if I faced them inwards (I have an extra gas tank below the floor and it blocks access.) Of course, using extended shackles, I have the removeable, greaseable bolts in the rear, so I can do this. On the front, the pins are more or less part of the one side plate, so both zerks must face the same direction.
