the 74 has a glass tube (no motor)
the 76 is stock as a baby (and the rust was free :D)
now i will have my hands full this winter with the buggy, the 40,and my camper
the BIG ???
should i keep and run the 2F
or put in a alum, block V8 toyota
or a 22RE (has that been done ??)
or DIESELL

Are you combining rigs to make one?

My vote for the motor:

  • 2f IF it runs good...easiest route.
  • 22re...if you have one laying in the parts pile and if the rig will never be used in high range.
  • toy v8 if you've got a little money to burn...cool factor here.
  • diesel (mercedes 617.952 5 banger, isuzu, cummins, or perkins ;)) if you've got a lot of money to burn (there are exception to this)...another cool factor here.
looks like I didn't realy vote.

matt:cheers:

well i have found (3) 1UZ 4.0 (lexus) allready
any one need a good running none smoking 2F ?? :D

well after looking it over better(and having the title) it's a 79 fj40
not a 76,but the 74 is still a 74 :o

Sounds like a lot of fun. I've seen a couple 22re's in FJ40's. Don't know how they would do on the highway..... Come to think of it, I don't know how my 2F would do on the highway since it never gets on the highway. For a DD/moderate wheeling I think the Toy V8 or diesel would be the better route.

i was all about the V8 then last night was thinking , i do like
the skinny pedal a lot so maybe the diesel would be my best bet
4bt ??
i allready have a t400 with a 205 on it's back

LOL
i don't think you could drive it any harder then me
i have broke a lot of parts to get it where it sits 2day
it's a point and shot rig now ;)

and yep i am puttin a motor in this weekend (83 mini)
come on out we could always use another hand
or you could work on my camper,or buggy,or 40 heck just take your pick
