Was wondering whether anyone has used these tires in some serious snow on off camber trails? Yesterday we went wheeling and were in anywhere from 8" to 36" of snow on steep sideways slopes and I was suprised with the poor performance that my GY AT/S's had. My friend was driving with my old 4Runner which has BFG KO's and that unlocked and unlifted 4Runner was getting better grip than I was! I was pissed. I was also scared as several spots would have slipped me sideways down long steep ledges. With the lockers engaged the thing would whip the tires to throw rooster tails of snow and gravel and grit from all four corners but the whole time the vehicle would want to slip sideways. Trying to go through slowly only made me slip sideways slowly!!! The thing that worked the best was getting the vehicle out of 4Low and just driving in drive or second or low with the center diff locked but even then, the speeds were so fast that slipping through those steep corners and dropping down into part of the slope was scary; I knew that if the momentum stopped, I would be wildly screwed. My other friend in a super lifted and locked and loaded 93 Toy Pickup was doing well with MT's but the 80 with those tires was having a hard time. So, any experiences with Revos in DEEP snow particularly in DEEP snow while off camber? Thanks.

automatic lockers + snow + off-camber situations = bad situation. Just be grateful you can disengage your lockers. Next time you are out there, try going back into 4 lo but don't engage your lockers. My '75 Bronco with a Detroit in the back hates sidehills and snow. The back end just wants to slide all over the place. If it is flat or I am going up a hill, no problem, but once it gets a little off camber, adios! In some situations it is just best to leave your axles unlocked.

Arya,

Did you reduce the air pressure? If so, did it help out the harsh ride you described? Just wondering, I think I am going for these tires as well 285/75/16s, right?

I just bought a 94 80 w/86K that still have the orginal Michelins on them, no suspensions mods

I have mine at 50 PSI. What do you guys run your Revo's at for everyday driving?

Yikes! That seems way high. I'm running at 35 per recommendation from very trustworthy local tire guy (read - no chain store teenage geek that puts on tires).

I got used to the ride. I have mine at ~35psi and they seem to be doing quite nicely. Got about 5k miles on them already(hmm, I got them in December....damn I drive a lot LOL). Yes, you probably want the 285s(that's what I have). All in all very pleased with these tires. The only thing I've noticed that is negative is that if you drive like an a$$hole in the snow/ice(i.e. corner WAY to fast, etc) they tend to lose their lateral grip. I have been unable to get them to break loose under acceleration, and it takes some SLICK ice to even get the ABS to kick in(they just plain stick), but like I said, if you corner too hard the truck tends to push through the turn.

Oh yeah, I also flat towed my '86 Toyota Xtra Cab 5 hours this past Sunday with the 80, and it was stable as can be. I believe I hit 85mph on one of the long downhills, and I couldn't have asked for a smoother stabler ride.

Have I mentioned I really like these tires? :D

Thanks, just trying to be sure.....My 80 will be a princess cruiser for a couple of years before I take the reins, and it needs tires soon.

My wife hated the noise my BFG A/T made (31"s) on my pickup a few years back, so I want something that won't make a lot of noise, and rides pretty good too.......

Tire Rack rated these #1, well above Michelin LTX that are on there now, supposed to ride and sound better too.....

Just trying to be sure......so any additional input is appreaciated.

Yep, I love mine. Have about 7K on them. Noise difference with the LTX is so minimal it's hardly worth mentioning. Bling factor over the LTX is great too! In all seriousness, the performance is great, wet and dry. We've had a ton of rain in SoCal this winter and I've had no handling problems. By alot of rain, I mean 12 inches where I live in one three day period. That's according to the course superintendent at the golf course that my house overlooks! He ought to know, it's his job and he's damn good at it! Only up to the mountains once last weekend and no snow to drive on, so I can't speak to that.
