I've seen people use the display case locks to lock those sliding windows. They're too easy to jimmy open with a knife or screw driver.

You need one of the more expensive alarms that are motion sensitive. They don't cost much these days as compared to long ago, and they're good in the sense that they even turn themselves on if you forget to do so but have taken the key out. Make sure it is very very loud. Theives don't like attention.

Well, noto steal the thread or anything but anyone have any ideas for places in the undercarriage to hide a spare key?

This photo was taken while shooting pictures of my dual tank filler assembly for another thread. I inadvertantly discovered where the PO hid the wallet key. It's accessed through the left rear wheel well rear plastic splash panel; three screws to remove. Maybe it could be accessed more readily from the spare carrier area, but I've never checked.

Anyway I've yet to lock myself out so haven't had to test it.

last car i had was stolen from in front of my house. got it back 1 week later minus about $1700.00 worth of stuff (mostly tools) they were nice enough to remove for me. all thieves should have their privates sawed off with a dull rusty knife. sorry about your loss.

Dude that sucks, same thing happened to me in college about 13 years back. SOB's took my stereo, all my speaker, and amps and even had the balls to steal my code-a-larm. Guess it was'n't that good. Anyway really sucky thing was insurance would only cover things that were attached to the truck so I was out all my tools and about 400 CDs. Theft sucks and I agree with shawn above 'cut their privates off with a rusty dull blade.

I've seen spare key boxes at the hardware store that you can bolt down. They have a pushbutton code to open it to access the key. They look exactly like the type of key boxes that realtors and used-car dealers use, but it could be securely bolted to the frame or somewhere else discreet. Look for them near the house locksets and deadbolts at Lowe's or Home Depot.

You guys are too funny...

I live in Hollywood by the way... someone asked me that above.

Irony with the alarm idea is that I did have one installed but it reaked havoc on my electrical system... had to remove it. It wouldn't have went off anyway. No windows were broke and no doors were open. Based on everyones comments... it seems like the only solutions are to built a lock box, dark tint, and a motion alarm. Nothing like going through life paranoid!

Thanks for all the ideas!

Hmmm this is kind of interesting. I have always left one of my rear sliding windows slightly unlocked so if i lost my keys i could crawl in through there and get to my "hidden" set of keys that are in the car...Maybe i should rethink this one. Possibly hide the keys up under the car so i can actually lock the whole thing up.

I recall hearing about under the air cleaner box and possibly in the canister?

Go to a hardware store and pick up a magnetic key holder with the big magnet. YOu can throw it anywhere in the frame or on the frame out of site, I'm not saying where mine is but, I've gone mudding and crawling with it and it stays on no problem. Just gets a little muddy sometimes :flipoff2:
