Owned by a family member who told me to make him an offer. It's been parked in his back yard for years. Ran fine when he parked it just upgraded to something nicer and didn't drive it anymore. It has a clean title. We changed the oil and checked other fluids, dumped a few gallons of gas in it and it starts but doesn't want to stay running. I'm sure bad gas and carb is probably all gunked up. Just based on this and pics what would you say a decent offer would be? Second question, what should I do with it? Turn it into a cool trail rig? Project for 14 year old son and give it him as first vehicle? I think I can get it for cheap, just not sure what it's really worth and I don't want to offend offering 500 bucks for it if it's worth much more.

Projects have the potential to escalate costs from hidden issues - even ones not known and more due to age. If you can do most the work yourself it would be a cool project for you and your son to do together.

I would agree that $500 would be a fair price knowing you have some $ to put into it. Can you run a compression test on it before hand just to make sure its ok?

Agree with Murf, your family member would likely be happy with anything if you get it out of his hair.

BTW, drain that old gas before trying to run the motor. You don't want to spread that gunk through the fuel system.
