Good free offline maps app

There are a few free offline map apps on google play.
"Here" is the famous Nokia offline map. I haven't tried any of them, so I have no idea if they are good for off road purposes.

just spent some weeks in Europe driving around. The Here maps worked great for navigation! Although I also used the Navmii ones, some of the latter having better visibility for the roads, colorwise etc. Either way, having voice directions is a godsend when driving around unknown places with crazy drivers zooming around when you are in a rental with declined CDW...
