No, not the typical which rack to get question... :)

I see year over year posts about price increases on the racks and I see one on TrailDuty now that says an increase has been delayed until August 1, 2017 (which based on my calendar has passed).

It also appears that the rear ladder, a free accessory, and free shipping are also quite standard as I'm finding that same info year over year since 2012/2013.

Lastly TrailDuty says they will beat any price. Yet when I look for anyone else to stock the rack for a 200 Series, I cannot find anyone. There are some listed for other series LC, but not the 200.

So, the question is, is TrailDuty the only place to get the Gobi for the LC200 and are there any opportunities for sales or discounts. If they are the sole provider right now, there's no real competition and they determine the market for the product.

Thanks.

You can get it directly from Gobi. I did.

You can get the rack directly from GoBi or you can have your garage guy call them directly.
***I will warn you.***
They make the rack once it is ordered. They take 8-12 weeks to fabricate then deliver. I ordered mine over 14weeks ago. I still don't have it.
I'm kinda pissed at their business model.

It took me 16 weeks to get mine. I was pissed it took so long, but glad I bought it. I love it.

Ditto. Seemed to take forever but I had planned ahead (last winter) and had it on in time for a March road trip.

BTW, if you go Gobi, you will have some options. I highly recommend going with the moveable rather than fixed crossbars unless you have a specific application (RTT?) that will always be the case. Once the rack is on, it is on. Having the moveable/removeable bars (2 of them) has enabled me to adapt the rack to different use cases. I also got the removable sunroof section with I rarely use but is available if I need that much floor space. The other decision you will need to make is what to do with the front. They have different options depending on what sort of lights you might be installing (if any) and what sort of look you want.

Also, though they are headquartered in the Denver area, I believe the racks are manufactured elsewhere. They do a lot of different racks. For 4Runners, Hummers, etc. That and the various options is probably why they don't have any pre-built.

Bring this thread back to life and seeking inputs from those with both a Gobi rack and Thule Motion XT cargo boxes if you're out there...

Long story, but a friendly hotel valet driver destroyed my Yakima Skybox. Hotel - who'll remain anonymous - was exceptional dealing with the replacement money for a new box.

I upgraded to a Thule Motion XT XL (better latch hardware, mounting clamps for on & off installation ease, etc) and now have a problem. It won't fit on my Gobi.

Two problems actually:
  1. Gobi fixed crossbars are too far apart. Easy fix, buy a 3rd removable crossbar from Gobi (I'd been wanting these anyway, and encourage future Gobi owner to configure theirs with the removable crossbar option)
  2. Thule's underbody shape will not conform with the Gobi front lip, nor the accessory mounts for MaxxTrax, RotoPax, etc.

If any other Gobi owners overcame this, how'd you do it?

Or do I return the Thule and revert back to a Yakima which fits? Or upgrade the Gobi to a FrontRunner (also had been wanting to do this for other reasons) and sell the Gobi to someone here local to Denver? Or???

Thanks all - looking forward to the feedback.

I too have the Gobi and a Yakima skybox. No knowledge of the differences with a Thule.
Commenting to confirm that you do want the removable bars, as I bought fixed and had to buy a third removable to make the skybox work.

The Skybox I had previously worked with the two fixed crossbars, no need for a removable in my setup.

For Thule, the crossbar mounts/clamps are tucked up into the box somewhat instead of protruding outside the profile. This makes the Thule ride lower, and interferes with the upper lip in front on the Gobi, as well as the accessory mounts.
