Have a 2007 2500HD Chevy pickup. It has the "Patented" Gm Locking rear differential. What a flipping waste of 800 dollars!

It only engages in 2wd. Im not kidding. 2wd it locks and makes really cool burnouts. 4wd it wont lock for crap and makes my Hilux look kickass pulling it out...

My question is why the hell would you put in a "Locker" that only works in 2wd? WTF? Do these guys know anything about life?

Have you explained this the the stealership? I am assuming you bought it new. It seems like it would be pretty easy to demonstrate. Does it fail to lock in 4HI and 4LO? I'm just wondering if maybe it takes a lot wheelspin to engage it, and therefore it isn't engaging in 4LO because of not enough wheelspin? I am not familiar with GM's new lockers, but maybe someone will post up with a solution.

uh, b/c it requires wheel slip and in 4WD you are not giving it the chance. In 4WD you would have to spin 1 front and one rear at the required rotations before it would sense to lock.

Its a mechanical ltd slip....:barf:...(literally, they explode)

It is NOT a locker.

nothing about it is new

its the same POS Gov-lock Chebbys been using for years. Only to save face, they changed its name. I guess so it won't come up in a google search

The name has been changed to the code for it, the G80...

YouTube "G80"...I don't have the heart...

I hate gov locks. Called dealer and bitched them out. For some reason the locker is not designed to take the "high" amount of torque delieved in 4lo, so it will not work. Sounds like a bunch of bs to me. In 2wd if i were to hold the brake and give her hell both tires will spin. Same time, no slip, no delay. In 4HI you can sit in a muddy pass and spin the hell out of it with a trailer on the back (damn floods) and only 1 tire will spin. 4LO is the same way.

It is advertised as the "NEW EATON AUTOMATIC LOCKING REAR DIFFERENTIAL" in the manual.

Im just a bit pissed off at the quality and design of this "POSI" . Wait a minute, thats why I own a Toy!:flipoff2:

I do enjoy the satisfaction of receiving the dreaded "Im stuck" phone call from my brother though, serves them right!:hillbilly:

If I recall correctly, you needed to be at around 1500 RPM's before an old Gov-Lock would even engage. Therefore, the only offroad situation where one could really be effective is in mud...provided it doesn't blow up in the process.
