I was working on the cruiser last night putting a transfercase in and filled it with gear oil, and a few minutes later i noticed a leak coming from the e-brake, so i took it apart and sure enough, the drum was grooved, so i jumped on line to check on some speedie-sleeves, i also made some calls, everyone local had to order them and it would be around $30.00. I wasnt to fond about waiting a few days to get a sleeve in so i start digging through the garage trying to see if there was some way to Mac Gyver something up.
Well I found something. The little round mint containers that pop in the middle to open or you squeeze around the edges to close are a perfect fit. So i cut the bottom out and tapped it down to where the groove is it is a tight fit and it takes some time to get it where you need without ruining it, but i filled it back with gear oil and its not leaking. I took it for a ride and parked and still no leaks, the Seal is new so this helps but hey it works.
I just wanted to throw this out for all you cheap A##es (like me) and late night wrenchers as a cheap alternative to a speedie sleeve.
