Getting ready to do some rust repair....what gauge sheet metal? (1 Viewer)

I have gotten most of the mechanicals sorted out on my FJ62 and have put off the body repair as long as possible. Now I need to get a few spots taken care of.

Wondering what gauge everyone is using. I have the usual spots to patch (rear hatch, fenders etc.).

I have found people say 18 gauge but have also seen 20 and 22? Anyone have recommendations?

Should be as close as you can to what is there already. Do you have any way to measure the thickenss - gage that came with your welder or micrometer?
