the guys at safelite are installing a new windshield. Gettin ready for this weekend's camping trip to Kofa.

Best upgrade I have made to my 80 was putting 3m crystalline (clear) on my windshield. It has drastically cut down the temps in the front of the vehicle. The sun no-longer bakes my legs or dash now in the summer. Not 100% legal, but since its clear no-one is the wiser...

going to put the new roof rack on for the trip?

I'm planning on installing it Thursday. I'm putting an LED bar on it now. Plus I need help lifting that sucker up.

good to know. I know some people put a tint on top of the windshield. How does the 3M work if its clear?

How does it hold up to scratches?

It is a UV barrier that cuts out more than 50% of the radiant heat. Most shops have a demo set up that uses a UV heat lamp to simulate it. It's amazing, and must be seen to be believed.

Some people have complained about halos at night or rainbow patterns with polarized sunglasses but I really have not experienced either.

Not sure about scratching as I have only cleaned the windshield once or twice since I had it installed but so far no scratches.

I liked it on my 80 but in many situations has a hazy appearance. No more hot legs driving into the sun though.
New non-tinted windshield appears clearer to me
