I waited 2 years looking for the right 80 (price and condition) Then on 9 Dec 2018 found my 1992 HDJ80R GXL Wagon. We call him "Thomas the II" (Thomas the first was my 2002 pop top camper Troopy whom we took on a short lap around Australia). Thomas the 2nd had 4415 km but was looked after by a retired accountant (2nd owner and drove it around town for 20 years and did 2 desert trips annually). In 2021 we did the other half of the lap (and to the remote trip Cape York Peninsula). Just about to clock 500k. After 5 months trapped camping in incredible locations throughout QLD during COVID. The missus had had enough of the tent and Thomas now has a wife Kimberly who often comes on trips.
My first damage was my drivers side door. Don't reverse back with the door open! 2nd damage was a modified my side step in Cobaw state forest Vic. I was warned its techniocal and rocky and without rock sliders you WILL get damage- We all had slight damage, but had a blast. No damage in video, just my first technical rock passage
We're thinking about wedding an ulti
Just a test fit at this stage to determine where we want the jockey wheel thanks to my single swing out jerry and tyre holder. Might have to move on from the roof top if it happens
It's a Codan 9323 HF Radio with automatic tuning antenna. Which I intend on selling - if you know anyone in Australia who wants one, let me know. After all the corrigations I've done over the years the antenna's bull bar mount cracked (they should be mounted on back anyway). But I've just re welded the bracket last week in case I wish to mount the antenna again.
Yep Cape York. Not sure which crossing. In our convey we had two brand new 200 series and Vista campers half a million just those 2 rigs. Did all the crossings I did. Except Nolan's (we had take bypass because of bridge down and delays - they didnt want to drown their rigs anyway.) Man Nolan's is entertaining. One of the 200's drowned himself near the tip anyway getting too confident with all the magic buttons
