I recently purchased a 2001 GCC Spec LC 100. I've since realized that this thing is significantly different than most of the information on the internet. Normal posts and answers frequently don't seem to apply. The '03+ LCs may be more 'normal', which is why I limited the years in the post title.

I thought I'd start a thread where people could post information on these GCC speced land cruisers.

Here are a couple of things that I have learned. Unlike US models, the GCC version does not use OBD-II. It uses M-OBD. That means a standard code reader will not work. I'm using Techstream, and it is also worth noting that M-OBD is pretty basic for this model. Techstream doesn't seem to gain you much.

The other thing that is really hard to find is a wiring diagram for the (my) GCC model (FZJ100). I finally found one here. The wiring in these is much more basic that what I found online. [edit: I uploaded a reordered and OCRed version to ih8mud here.]

Finally, another thing that I find interesting is that my LC only has tail lights in the quarter panel, not in the lift gate as well. I'm going to do some research to see what that is about, but I found it interesting and maybe a way to ID GCC spec vehicles.

A couple of updates. I've also since figured out that this site does have some of the wiring diagrams for the FZJ100. It actually merges multiple technical books. I've already contacted the creator and offered up the first batch of missing pages from the EWD342F manual.[edit: I uploaded a reordered and OCRed version to ih8mud here.]

Separately, I also OCRed the EWD342F manual using PDF24. It did a great job and it is really nice to be able to search it. I also uploaded the manual to Lulu on-demand publishing to have it printed. With shipping, it was $40. If it comes out well, I'll post back here and offer to share the Lulu project link. I like having a physical manual and this one is not available new or used.

My GCC spec LC100 has a ton of electrical issues. Some were 'fixed' with hack wiring jobs. I'm slowly undoing everything and fixing it properly. One problem I traced to the "Controller & Junction Instrument 82791-60021" (aka body control ECU) was that the car indicated one of the doors was ajar. I checked all the usual suspects until I got to the ECU.

I looked online and locally for a 82791-60021 with no success. I even looked for a 82791-60011 (which I saw on a Toyota manual) and 82791-60010 (which was mentioned in this forum), which are for the higher spec (memory seats, telescoping wheel) of the same year, with no luck. One of the salvage guys sold me a 82791-60031. He said I could try it and return it if it didn't work.

Guess what. It seems to work. It fixed my door ajar issue. I checked front and rear wipers, mirror, door courtesy switches, and power windows (which are all controlled by this ECU), and they all work.

So the lesson is, if you need a 82791-60021 it looks like interchange parts MAY include 82791-60010, 82791-60011, and 82791-60031. Why the capital "may?" because my door locks still don't work when the car is turned off. I need to trace that to see what it could be but I think it is probably the theft deterrent or wirelss ECU. So it wasn't the ECU and the 60031 still works fine. I also opened it up and the circuit board looks identical to the 60021 but the 60031 has components populating the board in spaces where the 60021 was empty.

Edit: reviewing this thread, it looks like 82791-60010, 82791-60011, 82791-60021, 82791-60030, 82791-60031, 82791-60040, 82791-60041 are all interchangable for the basic functions. Memory seats, power tilt, telescoping steering and some of the other functions may only be on some models.

Based on what I have seen online, people have modules were installed in cars with these features-
w/o memory seats, power tilt, telescoping steering etc
82791-60021, 82791-60041
with memory seats, power tilt, telescoping steering etc
82791-60010

Another nugget of information.

I've been fixing a bunch of electrical issues my LC100 with a 1FZ-FE engine. Mostly removing hack electrical wiring and doing proper repairs. When I bought it, I was told that the main fuel tank didn't work and they had just been running it from the sub tank. I replaced both fuel pumps and put a new bulb in the sub indicator light. The sub light was flashing. I found a jumper to ground in the Sub Fuel Pump Forcing Driver Relay that I removed. The sub light stopped flashing and everything works like it should - maybe.

One oddity that I thought was going to have to resolve was that fuel was being moved from the main tank to the sub tank. I run down the main tank and switch to what should have been a 1/2 tank of fuel in the sub tank and the sub tank would read full. I suspected there was another issue and printed the schematics to troubleshoot. I found an online owner manual for a RHD model and have been using it to learn how things work. Looking for something else, I stumbled across this passage.

1 FZ- FE and 2UZ- FE engines
Due to the fuel passage incorporated in the sub fuel tank system, the fuel in the sub fuel tank increases as you consume fuel from the main fuel tank. This fuel passage is designed to encourage your use of sub fuel tank from time to time so that the fuel pump within the sub fuel tank is properly lubricated.

Now I think this is normal behavior, and the jumper wire I removed was too related to running only off the sub tank. I'd still like to understand what the Sub Fuel Pump Forcing Driver Relay is. Maybe it turns on periodically to move the fuel. Anyway, several questions on the sub tank filling on the internet, but none of the answers point to what the manual is saying, except one that noted a 'small amount of fuel' is moved to the sub tank on startup. I'm certain that it is transferring fuel as I drive since after long trips, the sub tank gauge will read full.

Another note for the file - The interior fuse block 82733-60032(driver's cowl), is also different. I picked up a clean one from the scrappers here and noticed that it was missing interior risers for the C/OPN Relay, ST/CUT relay and FUEL/PMP relay (which in my case doesn't have a relay but a permanent jumper - the relays are moved to the back due to the sub tank I assume). I drilled out the plastic rivets on both the old and new fuse block, installed the risers where they were missing and put everything back together. Everything seemed to be working except crank but no start. I ended up moving the risers back to the original one, reinstalling and everything worked again. Eventually, I'm going to buy a correct one to install and then disassemble both of my current ones to see what the difference is. Some pics below if you are curious as to what the inside of a fuse block looks like. Basically a giant PCB. You can see the corrosion on the old one in the photos. Circled in red are the missing components.
