finally putting back together my 40. is there some material out there that can be bought in a sheet to cut out the backing for all the hinges and such that go up against the new paint. I see a few on the websites premade for hood hinges and a bunch on ebay but since I need them all thought I might could buy the material and cut my own

I got a sheet of EPDM (UV resistant) from a local place that sells parts for home garden ponds. They use it to line the pond and it lasts indefinitely in the hot sun.
I got a piece of nice thick vinyl used to line shower pans from lows. A 1 foot by 4 foot piece was only a few dollars and it is stiff enough to make it real easy to cut and flexible enough to use anywhere and seems to be the perfect thickness for the job.
