I have used that stuff till now and it leaks like a sive.

In case anyone else knows the answer, I thought I'd revive this old thread. The gap between the lid and tub of my trailer is approximately 1/4". Which of the following bulb seals most closely resembles the bulb seal that AT trailers use, or which one (in your opinion) would work best for my application.

I'll be getting there soon myself and just looking at the pics i would go with 5 or 6?

I would go with a #5, #8 or #11. But without the dimensions of A,B, and C it makes kinda tough. It's a fine line to keep the moisture/dirt out and not cause a "hinge binding condition. I would say though the weight of the top itself will do a good job compressing and sealing.

Those pics are from McMaster-Carr, here is the link

I'm thinking i need something 1/4" and 1/2"

Ok..after reading the dimensions my vote is for #5 for the following reason;

1) I see the top of the lip of the tub is flat..maybe an 1- 1/4" in width (guessing) but I think the double bulb type seal would conform nicely to any imperfections and/or gap differences. If for some reason it wasn't quite enough you could add an addtional single bulb type seal on the bottom of the lid, thus creating a "refrigerator" type seal

Just remember not to apply it in hot weather or when it cools down you may have gaps due to shrinkage or contraction.

Good luck

when i was looking for something to seal my lid, i was in search of something similar to #5 where it could be screwed onto the lip. i needed about .5" thickness that could compress to .25". couldnt find what i was looking for at a cheap enough price, so i went with some .5" square adhesive strip. cheap and works well to keep out dust and water and compresses nicely for a good tight fit.
