You can get new manufactured replacement tanks, just google around a bit. Or you could find one in a junk yard and spend all that time swapping in one that may leak in a few years.

have done that an called one place called just tanks an he said there are none made for
that old of a truck.gona look for one in a junk yard an have them run a locate on it
thanks. guess i should have kept the 40...

i do not know where you are located, but most yards around here, told me they had to punch holes in the tanks, that was a few years ago, when i was looking for an efi tank for my 84 4 runner, jc whitney had them brand new for $750, back then, have you tried them.

Did you look into a Jeep or a F-150 tank ? Alot of guys on Pirate4x4 put them out back where the spare tire would rust... I mean go.

toyotapartsbarn.com has them also your toyota stealership can get them.

BTW I was googling with "long range fuel tanks hilux" without the quotes as the search string.

Edit: Here in the USA they have to crash test any new tank for a vehicle so you don't see long range tanks. There isn't the demand to overcome the costs of the testing. In AU there is enough demand, but I under stand there are now increased regulations for newer vehicles.

first off thanks all for the replys..i was on the way to the beach sat for a
little fishing an took a different route, passed by a guys house that had a few
older toy trucks in the front yard, the wife said why don't you stop an check him out.
so we turned around, met him in the yard.nice guy he had 5 trucks in the back.
even let me use his tools.charged me 25 bucks an said come back if i need anything else.
so the project is on now..i'll post some pics soon.
