Disconnect the negative battery terminal before you begin. Work in a WELL ventilated area with access to plenty of fresh air. Keep a fire extinguisher near at hand. May sound dumb, but wear a pair of safety glasses -- you'll be really glad you did when that first chunk of dried mud and crap gets knocked loose and drops in your face. After dropping the spare tire, use plenty of penetrating oil on all of the connection points/nuts/etc... for the spare tire cross member, tank straps, et all. Drain the remaining gas from the tank, plug the lines, unbolt the mother and drop it.
