gas gauge broke - where to start?

Just got my 1980 FJ-40, so Im taking care of all the little stuff I need to fix. My gas gauge to broke. As far as I know its not the fuse, because the other gauges work. Am I wrong about this? where should I start looking for the problem?

Ohm out the sending unit, and the signal wire to the back of the insturment cluster.

Remove the ground wire from the top of the sending unit and clean it up a bit. I've had corrosion there that could cause your problem.

Verify that the guage itself works by grounding the wire to the sending unit. When grounded the guage should go to the full side.
