Since many CC members are busy this coming weekend, Gary has decided to postpone the run for a week. It will now be held Saturday, October 24 and still have the Chilliwack Airport Coffee Shop for breakfast and the other details still the same. If it looks like snow up Mount Cheam, then Gary has a Plan B.
Please pass this information along to your friends who plan to attend.

For those of you not sure where to rendezvous after breakfast, I had announced that we assemble at the Vedder Riverside Parking pull-off. Well, in fact that is the Chilliwack riverside parking pull-out. Sorry about that.
So, if you are coming from Vancouver, then you follow Highway 1 freeway past Lickman Road and exit south at Vedder Road. You follow Vedder Road south through town and turn left just before the bridge on to Chilliwack Lake Road.
We pull off for assembly at the first parking pull-off.
See you there at 10:30.

I'll be catching up from behind, leaving the Vedder Rd/Watson Rd area at 11am. Don't wait up, I'll find ya ;)
 
Had a great time. Was good to be out on a local trail I had never been on, see folks I had not seen in years, meet some new people and stretch the legs on the BJ74. Mike make it out okay? I got home at 18:20, just in time, so it was good to have left fairly quickly from the top when we did.

We got off to a good start Saturday morning to enjoy seeing the blanket layer of fog hovering over the Fraser R under the Port Mann bridge. Further on, the golden sunrise near Mt. Baker greeted us as we wheeled east through Langley. We knew right then it was going to be a good day. A hearty breakfast at the Chilliwack Airport went down easy and we rendezvoused all 12 vehicles alongside the Chilliwack River.

Coastal Cruiser members and guests included Gary T, Mike McT, Daryl H, Dennis, Greg Van T, Justin VanH and brother Paul, Brenda & Kim, AJ in red 40, Max B, Craig E & Rhiannon, Amy & Jason H with Julia & Owen, Greg B, Wendell, & Bill W. My apologies if I missed anybody here. All photos by Gary T.

Heading down the Chilliwack R road, past Selese Park, Bench Road and on up Mt. Thurston Trail we enjoyed the golden fall leafs and great visibility. As we continued higher up, we found that some road work had recently been done up there, and the cross-ditches were getting muddy and deeper. Finally we encountered the muddy mother of all cross-ditches and several vehicles struggled to mount them. Kim bottomed out and eventually had to be winched up. Gary climbed the hillside and used a tree saver, which was a great advantage point for these pictures.

Jason also needed a tug from Greg VanT to get over that hump.

Just below the old Ford Explorer wreck, Mike had a close call. He bottomed out and dug himself into the ditch and ended up with both right wheels off the ground and the truck hovering precariously. He did eventually winch himself out, with the help of a few bodies as counterweights on the high side.

Onward and upward, after encountering numerous motor bikes and quads, we reached, late, the peak and rolled out the Bavarian smokies, chips, and Willy's chocolate chip cookies. The peak was balmy and not as cold as in past years. No snow, rain, or wind!

During lunch Mike McT assessed the damage to his vehicle. It

had 2 broken transfer case mounts from the adventures in the cross-ditches. While we were chomping smokies, he and AJ were busy under the truck fastening down the TC with two come-along hand winches. They just anchored the TC firm to the frame and the fix worked all the way home to Mike's place. Land Cruisers are incredible vehicles, you can usually limp them home even with problems like this.
 
We traversed over Thurston/Cheam and on to the Chilliwack lookout for a quick stop and, since it was getting late, on down the Chipmonk trail and headed home. All in all a very good day with challenges to keep it interesting. Thanks Gary for your

That was a good day, thanks all! And a big thanks to Gary for organizing this once again.

Glad to hear Mike made it home okay.

Small correction Bill, that was Justin's 40 that Greg VT tugged through the cross ditch. I engaged lockers, carried some momentum and charged through!
 
How did Mike bust his T-case mounts ???

Yep - Landcruisers are tough rigs!...I drove home from Death Valley with a severely bent front axle then to Vancouver to replace the case (2,400 km).

Lady Luck comes and goes; just ask the Blue Jays...
Mike did well anchoring the TC with the materials available and making it home OK in one piece.
I'm just wondering if it's tough to get the TC mounts for that one.
