In my BJ74 factory fuse box two fuses are marked as Spare. I am assuming these are merely sitting in non-wired slots waiting for the day when another fuse burns out.

To add a new 24V circuit is it possible to make one of those slots active?

Or should I look to getting a "circuit tap" that fits onto an existing accessory fuse?

Hello,

Instead of wiring a 24V circuit to the fuse box, you might want to route it to the power outlet box.

There should be one on the right side of the engine bay, by the air box.

Hope this helps.

Since this line will trigger the relay for my e-locker, I'd rather have it inside the cabin for as long a run as possible.

I have a 24-12V converter and a 6 circuit 12V fuse box.
Interesting idea to use a split fuse box.
