I saw this advertised in Enginering News Record (ENR) and just ordered one. It is a funnel with a water/debri filter to use when filling gas from cans.

They are a littel pricey. Probably something else similar out there but I tought it was a great idea. I know I have screwed up a perfectly good fuel system by fillling out of a rust gas can before.

Toss a coffee filter in your standard funnel. Or a paper towel in a pinch. It'll stop any particles. I do it all the time.

Then just keep some Heet handy to pour in if you get some water in.

Should always have some Heet in the rig anyway if you fill from jerry cans or if you do any significant water crossing.

If you have a can that is supect, pour it slowly to avoid disturbing the dregs at the bottom. And then leave then there. If you are syphoning, just keep the pickup above the water/crap in the bottom.

If you are in a cold climate, pour the contents from any suspect cans when it is below freezing. The water in the bottom (and any crap in it) will be frozen and the gfass will pour out clean.

A field expediant filter and some common sense are cheap and very effective.
