Fuel Tank Capacity Not Being Fully Used

I always thought having the 5 gallons helped protect the fuel pump from getting hot hence protecting it from damage.

I should have kept going until I saw gas at the top just to see how much could be squeezed in, but didn’t wanna slow down the long line.

One other risk you expose yourself to by filling all the way to the top is a saturated charcoal Evap canister - the technical term for that would be, "Bad." At best, you'll throw codes for awhile; at worst, you'll have to replace the canister.

Well the 5 gallon reserve fuel is actually just what the name implies "for reserve driving to find a gas station". Toyota knows that the landcruiser is a thirsty beast and unlike a prius which could go 40-50 miles on a gallon, the landcruiser will probably get about 8-15 miles at most on a gallon Toyota sets the gas light to lit at approximately 1 gallon left, then they the road side assistance phone line would be ringing off the hook due to owners running out of gas.

Tundra's are the same way, so are Nissan Armada's, and Qx80s. All seem to mislead one into thinking your out of gas when there is really 5 gallons still in the Tank. All 4 200s that I have owned were exactly the same. Only thing different is 200s show cruising range where the others models and or brands call it distance to empty.

I don't really apreciate the misleading information, I can work with it as long as I catch the exact moment that it hits 0, and quickly notice the mileage on the odometer, that way I can then do the math to know how much farther I can really go. It's when you don't catch that exact moment, that the whole 0 range warraning hits, it really gets unnerving.
As far as I am concerned, I would much rather it display the truth or something really close to it, rather then prompting un neeeded stress with the false information.
