Fuel pump question (1KZ)

I purchased a new OEM fuel pump for my Prado. Inside the inlet port they are different... new one looks 'ported', old one looks free flowing. Anyone have any insight to this? (Part # is the same)

I can not say for sure but maybe somewhere along the line someone fiddled with the old pump?
