It's normal on old pumps that don't work anymoreYou need a new one. Bosch makes them - about 49 bucks or something - I think they might be cheap from toyota as well.
Hard to change? anyhow truck started fine after fuel filter change...could a pocket of air go through later one and stall the truck?
Can be awkward to get a spanner onto the hex at the base of the pump. But if your replacing it, damage doesn't matter so you could use vicegrips on the upper body instead.
I got a replacement primer pump in under a week from Roodogs in Australia ($40 australian) but had to use the original copper washer because the new one didn't fit.
Some disagree, but I say if it runs OK - no need to try bleeding more air. I believe it just makes a mess with no gain. It would be rare for air to be trapped somewhere in the system and make its way to the injector pump later to cause the engine to stall (from my experience). It's never happened to me.
If air reappears and causes problems later - it's usually due to air being sucked in through a leak on the suction side of the fuel pump where below-atmospheric pressure exists.

Ahhhhh. OK. Bleed the filter again and then the injector pump via the bleed fittings on each.
The trouble with a leaking primer pump is that you never know whether it is leaking new air into the system as you try and bleed the old air out. It is on the suction side (or below-atmospheric-pressure side) of the fuel pump! My advice is to replace that leaking primer pump ASAP.
I assumed that you had at least let the vehicle run and idle for some time after you had got it running.

Make sure the area is clean before unscrewing the old primer pump. (Should "go without saying" really as this is so obvious.)
Some people advocate "cracking" the nuts on the top of each injector to bleed air from there too. You can do so if you wish but I never bother because I'm always successful without it. (You would need a second person to do this while you're cranking it over.)

Truck is running fine now. When i got the fuel filter bleeder to vent only fuel, the truck was having trouble idling and seemed to be running on 3 cyl, man on 3 this rig turns like a Harley. Anyhow i unscrewed the sleeve holding each injector tube and cranked it. Eventually all seemed good.
I'll head to toyota and see the price they give me for the primer pump. But has soon has it is building pressure it leak ALOT! fuel gussing out.

I had the exact same problem of the the leaking primer and I just replaced mine last weekend. I used a crowfoot to get the stock primer off and then also to tighten the new one on. I also replaced the copper washer and the plastic valve as well. The primer was made by a German company, Flag. I got it from EBI. www.extremebends.com

I took an open wrench, cut the round twelve point off to shorten it, then grind the whole thing flatter/thinner to fit under the pump. I can't remember the size of the wrench but something like 14 or 17 mm.
I can them from my local diesel shop if you are really stuck

You just need the pump (22501) which should come with a new gasket (22513)
The gasket is really just a copper washer.
You can certainly buy them easily on the Internet (which is my preferred method these days). Mine came from Roodogs in Australia who advertise on Australian eBay.

Just rechecked Roodogs site and they appear to have Nil stock for the B/2B/3B diesel (only stock for a Hilux).
But a search of Bosch 2 447 010 033 yields lots of results elsewhere (not Roodogs) and so does Denso 09219 50.
Both these part numbers come from others on MUD who say they are suitable.

By the way - Apparently the bosch one doesn't need "screwing down" to "stow it away properly after use". But apprently it's well priced and some people like that feature.
I am not sure what you mean, but the number is accurate as I still have the box of the box the pump came in, and yes it does come witha little washer. It was a typo in my previous posting but I wanted to say that I could get you one from the local diesel shop in Ontario Canada where I am and I will ship it to you for the actual part cost and shipping. Lostmarbles, I was replying to your post with respect to not being able to find a pump. However, I am using a text based browser, Lynx, on a linux box thus some of the site buttons do not show as in "quote". So, the post meant if you want I can get a pump for whoever couldn't find a priming pump. Cheers, Edgard.
