fuel pressure reg or elec fuel pump?

Wanting to tweek my fuel delivery system. 38MM Weber carb stock '78 fuel pump. Still appears to be running rich ( no bad) but I think it could better.

trouble shoot list

(1) pressure reg?

(2) elect fuel pump?

(3) leaner jets?

Carb was jetted for the cruiser

I know very little, but I'll give this a shot. A lot of "rich" running webers are running too
much choke. I fought this rich stuff for some time till I adjusted the choke plate to
the point of barely enough choke to crank it up on a cold day. K&N filter will also
give more air. (some hate K&N) It runs like a banshee now.
I changed the jets to leaner/smaller ones before the choke adjustment/K&N.
I went back to larger jets after adjustments and like them better.
I use an in-line electric fuel pump without a regulator and have no delivery problems
on my 38DGS weber.
Results may vary....I ain't no carb guru....heck I ain't much of a mechanic.

I put a adjustable pressure regulator on my Weber when I had it. It seemed to help a lot with the rich running and off-road abilities. I got my regulator at Autozone I think. Maybe O'Reilly.

Set it a 3.5 lbs. Weber carbs like that setting. The OEM fuel pump puts out about 9 psi??? Is that right? I know it's about twice what Weber wants. I've been rid of that Weber for quite a while now and haven't looked back.

Go Aisin, have it rebuilt by Jim C. and be done with it. You won't regret it. I haven't.

yeah I hear you, My choke is all the way back and I have the large K&N filter on there as well

I think I will go with the electric fuel pump and see how that works.
