fuel gauge

Hey guys , got a question...... just bought my 97 cruiser and the fuel gauge doesn't drop below 3 quarters of a tank and yet the feul light comes on. Any idea why? I did an OBD scan and it didn't throw any codes, so i assume the sending unit is fine. let me know what you guys think! thanks!!

I don't think the fuel gauge or sending unit would be an ODBII monitored system.

Fill up right when the light comes on and tell us how many gallons it took.
