All, there was a post regarding the fuel door spring breaking and the part needed to replace it. Well, driving from Alaska to Bellingham in my 200 and it just happened to me. i have searched all through the forum but have not found it. Can anyone point me to the post?

FWIW I hot glued mine back into place. The repair has held up quite well.

After 11 years of opening the door to fill my tank, I realize I don’t know what the spring is supposed to look like when it is correctly installed. Anyone have a photo?

I bought a spring because of someone posting this a while back. It lives in the glove compartment as I don’t want to be hard up like I’m assuming @stonepa was at the gas pump trying to figure out wth happened.

New and stupid anxiety unlocked on my end with these posts. Haha

I replace mine yesterday with the one from Amazon as a preventative measure and I had a heck of a time removing the old one. The "C" shaped part that clips onto the hinge was stuck and I had to yank it out with pliers using a little force. I don't think anything was bent, it was just stuck in there. The new one slid right in. My fuel door and spring don't look like the one in the picture above. 2010 LX

If you’re breaks, you can temporarily stuff a rolled up piece of paper in the door so that it releases when you pull the lever. The door just needs a little pressure to open. Annoying but not the end of the world.

Mine broke at 50k miles. The replacement has been fine. I assume there must be a superseded part #…

The fuel cover spring on my 2019 Land Cruiser broke when I was at the busiest gas station ever, rural Camp Verde AZ, where the gas was at least 20 cents lower than anywhere in the state, there were 3 vehicles lined up behind me, people were all over the place, and pull as I might on the lever, nothing happened. I panicked for a minute. I even thought about trying to force the lid off with a big screwdriver. Finally it occurred to me to ask one of the many customers going in and out of the store to lend me a hand. The guy I picked looked at me sideways for a moment, with a wandering eye, but finally consented to help. Just pull on this when I tell you to. So he pulled the lever and I got fingernails behind the cover, and it opened right up. Definitely a two person operation. Maybe this is news to no one, or maybe it'll be of some assistance if it ever happens to you.

Had to put my glove box spare in yesterday after noticing the old one barely attached when gassing up at Sam's. This one lasted about 5 years.
