Hey All New here.
This might be a strange one but my hard wheeling days are over and im looking for a touring vechile.
Ive been looking at all the Wagons above and stuck on what to get i have 35 to 40k to spend. I currently have 2 1fz 80s love them to death but are just too thirsty to travel IMHO
I probably prefer the 200 out of all them but I am just way to scared of buying a dusted one so that has turned me away I understand you can look in airbox and intake hoses but ive seen people that have bought ones that aren't dusted and still have layer of dust in intake hoses so im just way to scared lol another slight let down is id prefer a manual.
Ive done about 10hrs driving as of late in a 2014 1kd 150 prado manual and love the newish features front and rear ac and 1200 ks out of a tank and crusie control.
Also spent some time in a 1hdt 105 I also really like there interiors and how comfy they are so thats were my idea of a fte 100 has come from but don't think they have rear ac and crusie control?
Have not driven a 76 or been in onel but would probably only be able to afford a work mate one so not as luxurious as id like.
A vx limited 80 i haven't been in or driven so not sure how comfy they are and also abit of a let down that they are only auto. You pay about 40k for one were I am with 200,000ks
Ive seen on some sites you can import for about 25k but thats alot of money to be buying a unseen car and idk how legit the sites are and also the process to get ine registered in QLD Aus.

Atm im highly considering a fte 100 or 150 prado as there 20 to 35k leaving me with upgrade money both have semi cheap Rego and from what I can see fairly good fuel economy.
200 series 1vd would be awsome but as I said just to scared of buying a dusted one plus more expensive rego and not the best fuel economy.
The other 2 are options but probably on the bottom of my list.

What would you buy for touring thats has pretty good fuel economy and reliability kwep in mind what ever wagon i get will be getting a small lift to fit 35s and Rooftop tent and touring setup in the back.
I wanna do a fair few big trips in 2026 vic high country and east Gippsland 2500ks there
Finke desert race and simpson desert 4000ks there
And Karratha Wa 5500ks there.
I simply can't justify doing these trips in my 1fz 80 using 22l to the 100ks. Its about $150 to fill up and get 400ks out of a tank ahah.

Not sure if this is the correct thread to post in so if it isn't im sorry.
I appreciate your guys time for reading this and giving me your opinions cheer

I skimmed your post that is too long.
Gathered that you thought an 80 guzzles too much gas. Well, any Cruiser wagon with a lift and 35 inch tires will have terrible mpg and most likely a terrible ride. I’d suggest buying the best 4Runner you can find at your price point and run it with no lift plus stock height tires.

If you want fuel economy and reliability, buy the newest model you can afford in the best condition you can find/afford.

Any of these vehicles will go all the places you listed. The older ones will handle the rough stuff better, the newer ones will handle the long black top stuff better.

If you liked the Prado, you probably can't go wrong with a good one.
79 series is never going to be as comfortable as a Prado.
Not sure how a 200 compares with a Prado on economy. My guess is the Prado will be quite a bit better.
80, 100, 200 will be more roomy than both a Prado or 79.

I take touring to mean: gravel, asphalt, and maybe an occasional technical trail. In that case, stick to the IFS (Prado/100/200) for comfort and high speed stability/handling.
