Call Toyota. If they don’t fix it, Lemon Law the vehicle.

I've fairly well confirmed this is an overheating issue. The system overheats, halts, and the screen freezes until reboot. I can repeat it on an extremely hot day with excessive computer use. I repeated it three times in the last week. Is there anything we can ask Toyota to do about it? I don't know.

Edit to add: sometimes, the system will halt, screen will freeze, then minutes later the GPS will continue talking and the screen behind the steering wheel will continue updating but the dash screen is still frozen. It may be rebooting and rebuilding connections but not rebuilding the dash screen connection for some reason.

Your description fits the problem I had. Vehicle sitting in 93 degree, full Florida sun on the dash while we shopped.

I think it strange that it can begin to boot up, then freeze (mine froze on the initial nav screen and stayed there through a 20 minute drive home). I would have expected the screen to return to normal function, but I also have zero idea how it's driven.

I drive a 16 LC. Bought it new and has less than 10k miles on it. Screen has frozen twice. Second time, after restart, RCTA and BSM were disabled. Manually turned them back on.

Today took it in for 10k service at the dealership (Autonation Toyota Buena Park) and informed the service advisor of the issue. After completion of service, they informed me the head unit is broken and will be replaced with a new one after it arrives in stock.

Didn't think it was much of a issue, but apparently it is. May have better luck trying another dealership.

After 2 years and less than 20K miles, our 2015 Highlander (bought new) developed the reboot problem. On one long highway trip (in the Spring, so no heat issues) the system froze and rebooted eleven (11) times. Near the end of the trip, it was happening every 50 miles or so. A free software upgrade under warranty at the dealer fixed it. So, this makes me wonder why they can provide a software upgrade for a Highlander and NOT a Landcruiser? Sounds fishy to me.
