Why is the Toyota seal PN 90311-70011
$40? Is there something special about the Toyota part? Normally a wheel seal, even from the dealership is like $10.

I see there is a quality brand aftermarket replacement seal on Rockauto for around $10.

Is there any reason I should stick with the Toyota OEM part?

For front hub seals I have the same opinion. I generally go with OEM, but as I repack every two years or less, I have no issue with not buying Mr.T. However, for the knuckle seal I would use OEM. I have used Timken (710456) the last three re-packs and have not had an issue.

Just curious, your reasons why the toyota knuckle seal is significantly better?

It generally doesn't need to be replaced (I am sure I still have the original one), and it is a lot more work to change. I use the "if it fails, how much time will it cost me" philosophy when selecting components and value my time quite highly. I am planning my major front end overhaul for next year (steering rack, bushings, CV's, hubs, etc.) so will use OEM for all and then I will expect everything to last for another 28 years.
