Need some help.

This is a troubleshooting with exterior paint issue for sealing up the front door hinges where they protrude through the tub.

Original hinge pic shown below, now stripped and painted. The OEM style has a built in rubber gasket. These are still available from Toyota for over $100 EACH.

Found an eBay hinge gasket. Wondering if anyone has used this? Looks like it may need to be accompanied with some butyl adhesive to create a watertight and semi-permanent seal.

Any other recommendations?

I too have questioned this for some time. The "seals" have been advertised from Indonesia and Thailand for several years now. They show an authentic looking label, using Japan as the source , yet that number shows up as the complete hinge WITH the bonded gasket. The verbiage is not typical for actual Toyota parts which usually seem very short and terse.

I suspect these are NOT a Toyota product made in JAPAN but rather possibly made at their Thailand "shared" facility which appears to allow creation of non-original parts. Or, could be a total one-off creation by someone who saw a need and a market. The question I too have is how's the fit, what's it made from, and is that a long-lasting rubber-type derivative that will not deteriorate quickly in today's atmosphere.

Agree that paying the high price for 4 new hinges just to get the seal is foolish when you already have a perfectly good set of hinges to begin with. Many times the old seal is cracked, broken, missing, etc. where a new flexible seal would be just the ticket. Let us know if you go that route and if you seal it with a butyl adhesive and the necessary fit and design versus the originals.

Best of luck.

I’m 99% certain I’ll go this route and follow up. Seems like the only decent option I’ve found but I’m concerned about the same things.

Probably months out from this step.

City Racer version available too, minus the hinge.

This is rad. 100% would rather buy from city racer. Thanks for the info

I just finished installing the City Racer version. Very happy with the rubber, nice and pliable. I masked off around them and used urethane to seal them.

Much of the stuff I've gotten from indonesia is rubbish, FYI.
