I have an '89 Toyota extended cab 4WD truck. The lubrication instruction card on the sun visor shows three grease fittings each on the front and rear driveshaft double Cardan joints.

No problem finding three on the rear Cardan but I can only find two on the front joint.

Is the lube card wrong and there are only two or are my eyes worse than I thought?

IIRC, on the 85-88's, there should be 3 grease fittings in the front joint on the transfer case side ( 2 for the u-joints, 1 for the ball and socket the cardan joint rides on) and two on the axle side ( u-joint and spline).

I thought the rear's were like the axle side of the front... but it's been a while since i've spent time under my 4runner.

Also, sometimes you have to rotate the drive shaft to find the fittings. The fitting for the cardan joint itself is recessed in the cast fitting.

extended cabs have a two piece drive line. the front should have three where it connect to the T-Case, theres one near the top thats hard to fine, one of the outside of the C-joint and one in front of the one on the outside

It is an extended cab. Only found two on the front Cardan. I'll crawl under and look some more.

The three on the rear were easy to find.

Thanks

On mine the Cardans are surrounded by a sheet metal shield. The shield have slots on the bottom to access the zerks.

Thanks

You might need to remove that to get to them. Or the 89's might have 2. If I go to my property today I'll check my old 89 and see how many it has
