Looking for some advise for someone that knows nothing about an FJ60 for my friend that lives in OK. He found this one on Craig's list in Tulsa and is very curious on what he should be looking at for known problems etc. I already noted the "used" engine reference and the questions he should be asking along with compression test that needs to be done. Here is the link to the vehicle.

1987 TOYOTA LANDCRUISER 4X4

He is looking for a vehicle to build up and use in CO for wheeling. Let me know what you think and what questions he should be asking this guy.

Just a few questions I would ask:

Ask for any and all documentation regarding the engine swap and why the engine was swapped.
When were the birfield joints last done?
Condition of the tie rod ends
Condition of the springs, are they original or aftermarket (OME, CCOT, etc.)
What aftermarket parts are installed and do they have a warranty?
Is there any rust? Have him look at the frame, lower rear quarters, lower door panels, wheel wells, and rocker panels.

Search the For sale section here on Mud and see if it's owned by someone here. The interior looks mint even though he has a Tuffy console installed. It's an awfully sweet looking rig not to pass up.

Thanks Phil. All good things to note and will pass on the info to friend.

I called the owner last night and quizzed him. He is a toyota mechanic, which helps. Nice enough buy. Said there was a little rust on the quarter panels. 100k miles on the motor. Sounds like a good deal. Mine was way worse than that, and it fetched 3k+.

Are you going to pull the trigger on it Scott? It's an awfully sweet looking rig to pass up!

I gotta finish my 40 first. 'Nuff said. IMHO it is a great platform for someone who wants a clean cruiser. Hard to come by these days for that vintage.

Your welcome for me bringing it to your attention. :)

My friend is leaning toward a FJ40 project, and I doubt will pull the trigger on this one. I'll tell you what, I'm more than tempted. If I only had the time. :)

woah, that is a sweet lookin rig....

I need a bigger garage.....and some time.....

I see a $4500 parts donor, or parts destination, what ever. I seem to be needing lots of panels lately.

Two fenders, four doors, and lift gate and tailgate. Not much really :D
