Thanks Rick. I'm faaaar from an electrician too. As far as I know the DC plug in the back of the FJ is a 'key off' plug but the AC is not. That is just what I've seen on my truck. The PO, Merle, did have a fridge in the back so he might have changed up the wiring in my FJC some.

get away from the cig lighter connectors and find a 2 wire male female set up, each plug that goes together has a male and female, so you can never plug it together backwards... and it is a tight setup, though it is not a flush mount in a panel, this is the type setup on my battery minder system and it works great.

Haven't heard of this as all the threads I've read use a DC/cig lighter to connect. Do ya have a pic?

here is what I was talking about, you just have to make sure you wire it right, the plugs are different sizes, and different colors, and the holes on the backside are plenty large enough to run just about any size wire and a cover

I am not sure where I got this.

any updates on this frig? I am thinking of purchasing one this week.

Been working fine. I'm not sure if I mentioned it earlier but I did replace the DC (cigarette) plug and I blue a fuse when I accidentally yanked the power cord out but besides that it has worked great and I've used the fool out of it.
