Hi,

I found a RHD 1990 VX HDJ 81 in Vancouver, BC. It is for sale at $11,000. It includes a BioDiesel conversion. Owner said he did a lot of work - new tires, big end bearings replaced. Has anyone seen this vehicle in Vancouver area? I'm from Calgary. Before I fly there and look, I need your advice if I should go for this truck. I'll use it as a weekend truck, nothing crazy. If I can get it on time, I'll join the LC group in Calgary doing their River Shriver. Anyone interested in looking at the truck for me? I'll buy you lunch when I pick up the truck :). Thanks.

i went and looked at it and took it for an extended test drive..all the way up to cypress, down to mt seymour parkway...etc.

its a nice ride...he was offering with or without the veggie conversion. veggie fuel cell is located in trunk which was an issue for me as ill need the room for 3rd row seats. can be moved underneath if youve got the know how.

he's added a boost controller, egt monitor... BEB's were done, tranny shifts strong, brakes good. interior is whats expected of a 17 year old truck with 167K on it. tried out the lockers, front engages, rear doesnt for some reason. could just be the actuator. paint is good, couple thumbnail sized scratches that exposes metal. clearcoat on the roof between winscreen edge & sunroof leading edge is peeling...but paint not damaged. he said a wetsand an respray of clear on that area could sort that out. decal along the side would obviously need to be removed...he mentioned that he can take it to where he got it done to get it peeled off. front PS birf has a bit of grease along the outside of the knucke...DS is fine.

hmm...cant really think of anything else. i was contemplating giving him an offer sans the veggie conversion, as processing the fuel is something i dont have time or space to do in order to make it cost effective. still contemplating it, but have other things with my 4runner that ive got to do first...

anymore questions let me know.

Hi Sonny,

Thanks a lot for the feedback on your test drive. I've looked at the picture of this truck. Did you notice oil leaks/moisture near the front driver's side (oops, in this case, passenger side), near the left wheel. Is this coming for the engine? Any other leaks that you noticed? Do you think the truck would be good as a daily driver? Is it drivable to Calgary?

My next question to the forum is, Can I register this in Calgary. I've been reading about registering RHD vehicles and it seems that every province has its own rules.

Thanks so much. I'm thinking of flying to Vancouver after Christmas to take a look.

Yes, you can register this vehicle in Alberta. There are quite a few RHD Cruisers there and some real nice units thanks to Wayne at Luxury Imports. You will have to do the same for this as any other vehicle from out of province - take it through and Out Of Province Inspection (OOP). Some things have been changed recently there. Check out IVOAC for information specific to Alberta and up-to-date changes.
