Hola all,
I was enjoying the weather last night before i had to spend another night at the hospital and I ran across a Maroon/ Old Red 62 with a saggin ass. I have pics on my phone, but i'm at work and can't upload anything. I was eyeing the giant ass mirrors and the grab bar. it's heavily tinted and it was 2100 so all i could see were after market seats, but the rest looked stock. Sticker on it said $600.00. Prob pick it up for less. I don't know if it is running. the number on the sign is 224-688-3615. It is sitting at the Phillipino Recreation center (i think that is what the building is) on Irving park just East of Southport on the North side of the street. I'm supper interested in the mirrors and grab bar, but I'm poor as sin. If you want, i can contact the guy and get more info and possibly drive her. Let me know and happy hunting.

I stopped by the Rizal Center today and looked at the above mentioned 62. Here's what I found.

Body is in decent shape. Not a lot of rust, but some. My 62 has more rust than this one. Those spots seem to be covered in small patches of body filler. It has miscellaneous dings, bumps and scratches. The Freeborn Red is faded quite well. Looks like it may have spent some time out west. The interior was pretty much stock but had silly looking aftermarket seat covers. The windows are tinted pretty dark but you could still see into decently. Suspension is sagged but that should be expected. Tires are in questionable shape but would be enough to get you home. Odometer states @ 174,700 miles. Condition of the 3FE engine and the automatic transmission are unknown.

For $600 dollars in just body, interior and drivetrain parts it would be a steal. If it runs and drives decently then it's a hell of a steal! If I had the extra dough laying about I'd buy it just for the spare parts for my 62 and maybe a 3FE conversion on the 40.

If anyone is interested I'd be willing to fork over $250 to get in with a couple of folks on buying it. We'd make a decent profit just selling the parts. I have no room in the garage to part anything out though.

I took a few cell pics so sorry about the quality.

I'm in for the oh s*** bar, and the mirrors. I was thinking, City sticker and zone sticker and park her near my casa. Prob could get her for 400ish and then another 130 for the street stuff. Just throwing it out there. I'll try and get a closer look on monday after i get some rest.

Seems like you could offer $400-500 and take it. It's obviously been sitting there awhile. I'd do it but as I said, I have no place to put it.

If you're smart Patrick you'd have it registered out of state and avoid the whole city sticker fiasco. Just remember to put a temp parking permit in the window. Not that I would do anything like that myself ;)

EDIT: I just reread a couple of previous posts. How fast do you think a few of us could strip a 62 series down. Heck I'd be in for most of the drive train and axles, I know Gumby would instantly take the hubs, and Patrick a few interior parts. Heck we could part out the doors, windows, fenders, rear hatch, dash and interior then recoup a few bucks. We could then scrap the remaining frame and body. I do have some room to store parts but not a whole rig.

I'd be in for something like that. I also have a garage space that possibly could be used to house it temporarily. Heck I may even be interested in just making it my new daily driver for that price.

Todd -- I have a good set of solid axle front hubs off a 60/62 series if you want them. They are already cleaned up and painted charcoal inners/black outers.

I may be in for the pass rear door if its in good shape, also maybe the front axle housing/3rd member, and maybe the chrome "toyota" piece on the gate....
