Looks like I am getting a '94 Ford F250 factory turbo diesel (7.3) in exchange for work. Body is excellent- long bed with extra cab (or whatever Ferd calls it) 2 wheel drive auto. 265 kms or therabouts. Used to tow a small travel trailer all it's life. Any thoughts? Are these things worth anything? If I get it I would use it for our landfill runs and then sell it on...

Also- I know the 7.3 is generally well regarded but is this a total pos otherwise?

Quick search on CL pegs them at about $2-$5k. Keep it as a landfill truck.

Generally good trucks. If it's a powerstroke it's an early one as I think 94 was the first year for that engine. They have a couple of small issues but are one of the last, simple, good american diesels and will pull a house. But, prob a 2500-3000 truck tops if 2wd.

Would say 2-4k if its minty.
Auto tranny be careful unless owner has full maintenance record.
The brakes are known issues and the parking brake cables are very suspect/bad.

Runs drives stops its always worth $1500. $3000 tops, allround decent truck . I always reguarded the ford diesel truck up until the the 6 liter as one of the best all round work trucks. watch out if he has a chip in it. Glow plug timers were an issue but you can over ride them easy, you just got to watch how long you leave them on for. By now i imagine there are alot of Ford's that have to be plugged in before they will start because one or two of glow plugs is pooched and wont come out becuase its swollen so bad it wont come out and you have to pull the head to remove it. Carry a cam sensor they are also prone to fail also , at least its easy to access on the front of the harmonic balancer.

Yes, 2nd on the cam sensor. Also, battery voltage is critical. Weak batteries will cause starting issues when cold. I have an 03 which is the last year for the 7.3 and it's been great. I have had issues with these two things tho'.

Yeah it is the IDI not the Power Stroke and has no mods - real old man owner.. Thanks. I suspect it is not worth my my time.

Sure- throw in your garden shed and it's a deal!
