Went up Foley Lake FSR this afternoon with just the family in search of Foley Lake and some good sledding for the kids. We never did make Foley Lake. Came close but got to another area where the hill was sliding. I walked it first and decided that the ground underneath was to soft to risk it by myself. I figure that we were only 1/2-1 km from the lake when we turned around. Not so easy of a task because some idots decided to have a fire in the only spot to turn around and they were burning wood full of nails. One 4' board I pulled out had a nail every 1/2 inch. Makes me think that some guys were trying to make someone get a flat. My wife spotted me to do a 20 something point turn without getting a tire where they had been burning nails. There was a great hill coming off a FSR that headed East off of Foley. However, it ended at a bridge. If the kids missed the bridge they would be in the creek. Hey, I would of tried it if I was there age. We decided to go down to what I think is the Chipmunk FSR start off of the Bench Road. Just about 1/2 km before we hit the main road T a rig was headed in on Foley. I asked the kid if he had any recovery equiptment. He didn't even have a jack - just a shovel. Told him to turn around at the first bridge. Hope he made it there. His girl friend did not look too amuzed. The snow was anywhere from 1-3 feet deep - with the deepest snow up on the Foley Lake Road. The worse road was coming in from the Chilliwack Lake Road and the Bench Road. They were real kidney killers with sections full of deep holes. Gave the suspension a good work out. Time to get new springs and shocks. Anyways, sledding was great and we had the usual roast hot dogs/smokies, Hot-C and Coffee.

I am heading up to Princeton this weekend. I am sure my elderly mother will have a few things for me to do around her house, so I probably will not be venturing to far. Was thinking of going to Martins lake Sat with the family. Ice fishing or late fall fly fishing is generally best on this small lake. I have seen trout over 7 lbs taken through the ice there many years ago. The Allison Valley lakes all get more pressure than this little lake. The fish get muddy in the summer and people think it is "too close to town". Unless there is active logging near the high mountain lakes, they are probably out of the question given that the snow levels up top are likely well over 5'.

That trail looks like the Coquihalla did yesterday when I came back from Calgary. Nice pictures I like the snow lava. I’m may go and muck about by Chiliwack this weekend provided I get all the drywall done in the basement.

You're heading up Mt Cheam again, eh? :D

Haha,

Not with the kids anyway. I saw a few off shoots in that area before we started the accent to Mt K3. I may go explore the area and see if I can find some fun trails. I'm going to stay away from little Iraq, north of Mission. If I did get stuck and have to leave the 80 in the bush for a while I have no doubt there wouldn't be much left of it up there.

I once went up to Stave and promptly turned around. I would say Iraq has way fewer freakin screaming idiots per 100 people. Sumas can be near the same but it is 10 minutes from home and only around 40 kms round trip to the top. I have gone up the Sylvester rd but only to the camp at the top. Good thing is there are lots of places to go in the Fraser Valley. You could try Jones Lake but like Cheam, if it is slick it is all down hill. One guy reported on BC 4x4 that he had tried it but it was pretty slick. At least on Jone Lake FSR there are trees to catch you if you slide off. I also have gone out East Harrison FSR. There are some nice beaches on that side. You might consider the 4WDABC monthly run out West Harrison: BB.BC4x4.COM - 4WDABC Sunrise Lake/Hale Creek Maintenance Run. Would be great if we could organize a few club day runs at our meeting next week.

Tomorrow I am meeting up with Gold Boy in Princeton for some ice fishing and depending on conditions maybe a run to the top of Baldy Mountain.

Kim, is work slowing down for you yet?

At our Coastal Cruiser meeting next week we are going to propose a Saturday, Jan 19 club trip up E. Harrison FSR. Some vehicles can attempt to push up to Clear Creek while others can have a BBQ on the beach near the Logging Camp while Mat supplies the entertainment. If problems arise, we would still have the Sunday to bail each other out.

I was referring to Stave as little Iraq. I went camping up there with the wife and kids when we first moved here. Way too many hill billy’s toting guns, we didn’t sleep at all between the gunfire and banjo music. We found a neat spot by a small lake and set up camp. A few hours later a bunch of yahoos showed up planning on staying in “their” spot. I think it was handed down by their grand pappy by the way they spoke about it. They elected to move on and camped on the other side of the small lake. The rap music , if you can call it music and lord of the flies bonfire where the start of it. Hooting, yahooing and discharging what sounded like shot guns (scatter guns in them parts) finished off our camping trip. I wont be subjecting the family to another outing in that demilitarized zone again. I will likely go to W Harrison this weekend if I do get out. I will hopefully be able to attend the next meeting and club run.
