I am compiling my notes and will post up later. TOTALLY Swamped at work.

We were at the far south end with all the white 60's

To start off, this was our first event, and we are totally ADDICTED! What a great time and outstanding people. We are very thankful to Chris, Gary, Randy, Bob & Larry for inspiring us to trail #5 before we knew what we were getting into. Every skid plate and piece of protection was loved :D

I think we talked about it all the way home, and here's what we came up with:

1. More toilets would be a necessity, and empty the ones there prior to the event.

2. It would be great to have showers on site, but as long as we could use the cabin showers, we would consider camping. We only had to drive 2 mi to our "cabin" but then we missed out on the late night entertainment.

3. The time of the year was fine for us. We talked to Ron & Sheila, who indicated that mid-late Oct gets pretty busy. The first weekend in Oct is empty though. The day time temps really weren't that bad, especially with all the shade options. But like others, we'd prefer cool to hot.

4. Sat dinner was good, but the potluck was excellent! Thanks to all who contributed. We talked about this as well, and would love to see more of the potluck. But that's a lot to ask, not only of Mike & Peggy, but others traveling. I think if enough people pitched in, and TAC purchased meat and some other things that could be prepared at camp, it would work. I even have a small water smoker I'd bring.

5. We couldn't have asked for a better time, and are already making arrangements, plans, modifications for the next one. Sarah's even checking into the next Wilderness Medicine Conference... better to be overprepared and bring too much.

Thanks again to all who were there, we had a GREAT time, even if Randy did win the fridge :flipoff2:

Same here. Well, technically it was our second event because we went to Tall Corn 2 weeks ago, too. I am so completely hooked and I would like to thank everyone who helped put this together.

The toilets could definitely used some help.

I would say don't trade off with Tall Corn. Maybe I'm just being selfish, but I would like to go to both of them each year if I can! Yeah, they were close together, but I thought it was really fun. (This could be because I was still reeling from the fun I had at Tall Corn when I drove down for FN).

Anyway, I will absolutely do what I can to make it next year!

Had a great time. I like lots a wheelin, an got er dun. Thanks Gary & Bob! Been repairin the 40 Mon. & Tues.
What fallers is in no perticuler order, jus the way they flowd frum my mind.
1. I am a GCC an TAC member. Ain't seen too many TAC's at the GCC events I been to lately....
2. Thank heavens Mike C. printed a set a directions ta the place. Otherwize we might not a found the place till Sat.......
3. If we are gonna pot luck both Thurs. & Fri. that woulda been good info ta have. I knew bout Thurs. but Fri. I thought we uz on our own.
4. Found out late Fri. that showers waz available? Mabey? The Club had rentd the cabin? That woulda been good info. I waz unner the impression we waz dry campin, so we took spit baths.
5. Ya almost need ta air down the tow rig fer the trip down ta camp.
6. Dito on fone service. We need 911 acess.
7. I am current on Red Cross Frist Aid, it will soon expire, recon I could see bout renuwin. But is anyone else Certified?
8. Flat Nasty is kinda, time consumein ta get to. I was at an event at SMORR near Semore MO. Easy 1 day drive.
9. The trails were plenty tuff. I hope ther waz enuf moderate runs.
10. I'll help. Jus ask.
11. I thought the weather waz wounderful!

Mike and I discussed the b-b-q on the way home and have some ideas. Most if not all the food could be prepared ahead and finished on site. Like the idea of a clean-up crew. Also, we could do pot luck for the rest of the meals, we seem to do it informally as it is so would just need some organization.

Would help to have kids ages before hand. Debi did a great job!!!

End of Sept is best for us date wise as we have other commitments in Oct, including daylight savings run.

Since we never get to meet everyone, wonder if there is some way to have a get acquainted activity during the event. Just a random thought.

I think all the meat could be done ahead of time and frozen. Ron & Sheila have a large smoker that we could fire up Saturday morning, cover everything with foil, slide it in the smoker and go wheelin'.

After talking with Chris about the end numbers ($$$) I think we can do the bbq in-house for less then half the cost ($800). I also think we should look at NOT renting the cabin for the week. That was a $450 shower house. I think Casey and Debbie were the only ones that stayed in the cabin. If showers are the only reason to have it we can go to Jadwin Canoe for a pay shower (this I did not know ahead of time) or the club could invest in shower tents and a couple of Zodi camp showers then raffle them off Saturday night or keep them for other events.

Meal ticket prices for next year should stay the same but add a pot-luck dinners Thursday and Friday would be cool. I would say we need a "cook team" so Mike & Peggy don't get stuck doing all the cooking unless they just want to.

I'd like to add a second driver's prize and do a timed obsticle course with the quickest time taking the prize.

Just another comment about showers and toilets...I don't mind smelling a little bit, but noone said anything about being able to use the cabin's facilities. I would not mind paying a bit more in my fee to be able to use the facilities a few times. That would also help with the kids. If it was open for use, noone mentioned it to me. The port a potty was definitely a bit nasty and needed to be cleaned/dumped.

Chris, I'd be glad to help with the BBQ. I have a trailer smoker (Oklahoma Joe) and have cooked the Royal several years and many other contests. Not so much any more, but i still cook for groups. I'm pretty well set up, gear-wise.
So, Mike, Peggy, count me in for any help you need.

Like the idea of using Ron and Sheila's smoker to finish up the meat. That way I don't have to find several heating trays to keep the meat warm. Was already planning on cooking and freezing, but would love for Mike C. to do his pulled pork again. I agree we should be able to do this much cheaper, especially if we watch sales for the meat. Also thought everyone could do their own beverage. Anyway, lots of time to work out details. Thanks for the offer of help Ed. Will certainly keep you in mind

tac rented the cabin?....was this for use by all tac memebers?....i like the idea of the club doing the bbq...the potluck dinner sounded great!....i am still curious about this cabin...sounds like no one knew it was available....

originally the cabin was rented as a "Perk", Safe sactuary, DRY storage for raffle prizes, etc. Some club members were down there starting Tuesday(meaning we REALLY needed a shower).. Cabin started Thursday evening. It was also available for "Club" significant others that would not camp. Since then we have learned that down the street approx 2 miles pay showers are available. Most club members now have "trailers" of some sort which is a significant change from years past. Thus the cabin was not as beneficial this year as it was last year. We didn't advertise it to the whole event as it was not the intent of the cabins availability to let the whole event go up there and shower.
Every year is a learning experience for those attending and a lot of fun.
If you have further questions please let me know.

thanks erik for clarifing the cabin...i would definetly not want to be around folks that had not showered since tuesday!....and you are right....live and learn...thats how the event will continue to get better...now i just wish i could make one:mad:
