Inspired by Cruiserbrett's rebuild thread https://forum.ih8mud.com/60-series-wagons/353899-fj62-power-steering-pump-rebuild.html, I've started to photograph the tear down of an FJ62 power steering pump - first rebuild of any kind I've done. I'll add to it as I put it back together. I've skipped removing the initial bolts as that is pretty obvious - soaked the bolts in some Kroil to get them out easily. Once those are off, the reservoir comes off with a little pulling.

Apart - be VERY careful not to drop or bump the rotary vanes - they come out EASILY.

If some of the vanes do come out ... !@#$ ... and if you still have one in, you can see the wear pattern and put the rest back in ensuring they are facing the same way. I can't remember where I read it, but i remember someone saying you'll have issues if you put them back in facing the wrong way.

Oil Seal Question

Here you can see the vanes that fell out and the consistent wear pattern:

So the Repair Manual says to use a hammer and chisel to remove the oil seal - is there an easier way or do you really just hammer it out gently?

I know nothing about power steering pumps, so sorry I can't help, but I wanted to say thx for posting pics, instructions, etc.. I believe my PSP is headed for replacement or rebuild, so in a few months I may be headed down the same path.

Cheers.
