MJM,

Thanks for the info. The whole bit about the 3/4" gap between tailgate and bumper makes much more sense now. Agreed, the bumper isn't super beefy like some of the others out there, but I think it's strong enough for me. I would say it's similar in construction to my front old-style ARB bumper.

I like that I can actually lift the thing, and that it will minimally contribute to cruiser rear-end sag. It's way more stout than the stock bumper & bumperettes!

I suppose I could sell this bumper, but it matches my front ARB so well. Gots to keep the cruiser fashionably accessorized.

Any ideas of a similar rear bumper that is more FJ 60 specific?

I would say IPOR has a channel bumper that bolts up nice and tight to a 60 and is not out of line with $$.
Beyond that most are more than just a tough bumper. Your rear departure angle will suffer from the ARB but I have gone on some trails following a stock rear bumper 62 that would hang up when I would just drive by. I did need to drill a couple new holes in my frame to mount the ARB. Not a hard job that can be done by one person.

I though it was out of production? I called about it last year and it was and still shows on website as out of production. If you have an inside please let me know.

Yep, I saw it on their site. Looks nice, wonder how often I would whack my knee/shin on those recovery points?

IPOR FJ60 Rear Bumper

Made from 1/4" formed steel plate this bumper comes with two massive 1" thick recovery points. Fully seam welded wings follow original body lines and provide additional protection for rear quarter panels. Easy bolt-on installation, no drilling or welding is required.

Price: $295 - OUT OF STOCK, PENDING REDESIGN

*powdercoating available, add $150

I wonder when the 'redesign' will be over with and they get more. That thing looks STOUT. I NEED one. :grinpimp:
EDIT: It says fj60 bumper but I'm assuming they mean 60 series?

So I received the following email from ARB:

"You are very fortunate to have found this rear bar as there are not many around. We haven’t sold these in many years and only sold a handful a year when we did. Unfortunately the instructions are no longer available, however it should be a simple slide over the chassis rails and bolt on installation, using Grade 5 hardware. I did manage to find this old tech note which may or may not be relevant to your application.

Best Regards,

Nils Bull

ARB Tech"

With the attached "tech notes"

"ARB rear step bar for 60/62 series Land Cruiser

• Fits Cruiser with newer crossmember
• From 8/85 and up
• However some newer rigs have old cross-member
• If you have the older style C-channel, you can either cut out the rivets and move it forward 4” or replace with newer style x-member."

Moving the cross-member forward 4" seems like a bit much, especially if the gap is only 3/4" off as MJM said.

Hmm...

Sounds like there will be some fitment issues on early 80s 60 series... I can take it off your hands. :p

Yeah, yeah... I put that price on there as per mud rules. People often overlook the OBO part of things for sale.

The price listed isn't even enough to buy a plain Kaymar rear bumper.

I'm also interested in TRADING for a bumper that would fit an early FJ60.

All in all, I would like to put this bumper or one like it on the rear of my truck. Perhaps someone out there has either cash or a bumper to trade.

So I finally got around to adding some "traction" to the step on my bumper. Was going to get some skate deck grip tape or a stair tread traction sticker, but this piece of diamond plate was just lying in the scrap bin. A couple quick cuts with the shear (35"x3-3/8") a quick grind, some 3M foam double-stick tape, and voila. A bit shiny, but free...
